Book Arts Basics

The Project

This informational guide was developed as part of a workshop I led in India. Its purpose was to provide students with a series of sewing patterns they could continue to use and replicate independently after the course.

The Process

Designed to bridge a language barrier, the guide served as a visual learning tool in a workshop conducted in English—the students’ second language. To support accessibility, I chose not to include written instructions and instead decided to create a more understandable version of Ikea instructions. I left space intentionally for students to add notes in their native language. While teaching I circled the room and took time with each student to answer there questions, so they had the time and space to flush out their notes. This visual-first approach enabled clearer communication and empowered students to personalize the guide for continued use.
